Blogging can only benefit you as an entrepreneur. Yet, it's often a major stumbling block. Because how on earth do you start blogging? And why should you, as an entrepreneur, blog?
The benefits of blogging, in short:
It enriches your website with relevant keywords, improving your SEO and Google ranking.
It's an excellent way to highlight your knowledge and expertise as an entrepreneur.
You can enhance the connection with your customers by showcasing your personality as an entrepreneur.
You increase interaction and the number of visitors to your website and social media, which is always a plus.
The following tips can help you write your next blog post more smoothly.
Blogging, What's That?
Blogging is essentially the process of writing and publishing posts on a website, often in an informal or conversational style. It's a way to share your thoughts, ideas, experiences, or expertise with others via the internet.
The meaning of blogging goes beyond just writing and publishing posts. It's a way to share your knowledge, engage your audience, and even build your business or brand. It's a means to make your voice heard, connect with others, and create value.
Of course, the purpose of a blog varies from blogger to blogger. As an entrepreneur, you can use it to share your knowledge or experiences, to build your fanbase, to promote your business or brand, or even to generate revenue through advertisements or sponsored content.
How to Start a Blog?
Starting a blog is easy and can be done right on your own website. If you don't have a website yet or prefer to keep your blog separate, choose a platform like Wix, WordPress, or Blogger where you can quickly get started. With the latter option, choose a domain name that fits your topic or brand. Then, set up your website with a layout and design that reflects your brand identity.
Next, start writing and publishing your first blog post. Yes, just do it!
It's a good idea to create a content plan so you can follow a consistent schedule for publishing new posts. And finally, promote your blog through your social media channels, SEO, and other marketing methods to build your audience.
Choose Your Topic Carefully
As an entrepreneur, you naturally want to blog about your business, but it doesn't always have to be about your product. It could also be about yourself as an entrepreneur, how a supplier helps you in your production process, or how a business coach or fellow entrepreneur can inspire you. It could even be about your personal life. Always try to write from the perspective of your ideal customer: what problem do they have, and how can you solve it?
The most important thing is to choose a topic that you enjoy writing about and have knowledge of because forced writing is not recommended for both yourself and the reader.
Not sure what to write about?
Then use Google as your free tool.
Type in a question/topic you'd like to talk about.
Scroll down until you see Google's suggestions: "More to ask"
These questions are often asked by others, so they have a high search volume.
Also, scroll all the way down to "Related searches"
Get inspired by the questions your target audience wants answers to.
Keep the Kipling Method in Mind
Blogging should be a creative process, not an exact science. However, if you need some structure to organize your text, consider the Kipling method. This method helps you determine which questions your readers would like answered:
WHAT is the problem or event?
WHERE did the problem or event occur?
WHEN does the problem or event occur?
WHY did the problem or event occur?
WHO is involved?
HOW does the problem manifest itself? HOW often does it occur?
Reuse Your Valuable Content
Your social media channels can be more than just a source of inspiration for your next blog post. They can also be used to further disseminate your blog post. Choose the key points from your blog and rewrite them into a video, image, post, story, tutorial, etc. This way, your social media content remains up-to-date and relevant.
Integrate Keywords for High SEO
Blogging provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your SEO by organically incorporating your search terms and keywords into your text. This is useful for improving your ranking in Google. Also, remember to regularly update your website and optimise your SEO.
By blogging, you integrate these keywords in a more natural and creative way than in a typical commercial text. And Google is a big fan of authenticity and creativity!
Take an Inspiring Course
One of my mottos is 'Never stop learning,' even if it means learning a random scientific fact. I aim to learn something new every week. My favorite subjects are related to marketing, and luckily, there are countless online and offline (free) courses available.
